Hyvä Checkout gets Klaviyo abandoned cart integration: What it means for Magento merchants

7 min read

Klaviyo Reclaim appears in Hyvä’s checkout integration tracker, which lists a compatibility package for merchants using Hyvä Checkout. If your Magento store relies on Klaviyo, the listing is a useful starting point for reviewing how your checkout and marketing flows work together. It does not, by itself, establish when the package was released or which abandoned checkout features it supports.

Why does this matter more than a typical module release?

Checkout is a point where third-party integrations need careful testing. Hyvä Checkout differs from Magento’s standard checkout, so a module that depends on checkout fields or customer data should be assessed in the merchant’s own setup.

Klaviyo explains in its Magento 2 data reference that, with a standard Magento checkout, its Started Checkout event depends on a quote being created and associated with an email address. Merchants using Hyvä Checkout should check whether the corresponding event and data reach Klaviyo in their implementation. The behaviour described for Magento’s standard checkout should not be assumed to apply unchanged to Hyvä Checkout.

What the integration does

Hyvä’s checkout integration tracker entry names the Composer package hyva-themes/magento2-hyva-checkout-klaviyo-reclaim and credits Ryan Copeland as a contributor. The publicly visible entry lists email and SMS subscription checkboxes for Hyvä Checkout under features to be implemented. It does not describe how the package handles Started Checkout events or confirm that installing it enables abandoned checkout recovery.

There is also a separate Klaviyo Reclaim compatibility listing for Hyvä Theme, with the package name hyva-themes/magento2-klaviyo-reclaim. That Theme package and the Hyvä Checkout package serve different parts of a storefront. Merchants should identify which package their store uses and check the relevant documentation before drawing conclusions about checkout support.

For abandoned checkout recovery, the practical question is whether the full journey works: does Klaviyo receive the expected event and cart information, and does the configured flow respond correctly when a shopper leaves without ordering?

The broader pattern: Hyvä’s checkout ecosystem is maturing

Hyvä maintains a checkout integration tracker and a separate Hyvä Theme compatibility module tracker. These give Magento merchants a place to begin reviewing the third-party modules they rely on.

For an established store, a tracker listing is one part of a compatibility assessment. The development team still needs to check the package’s documented scope, the versions in use, and any store-specific checkout changes. A working Theme integration does not automatically establish that the same features work in Hyvä Checkout.

What should merchants do now?

Already on Hyvä Checkout? Review the Checkout package’s documentation and supported features for your setup. We recommend testing the full abandoned checkout journey: enter an email address, leave checkout without placing an order, check for the expected Started Checkout event and cart details in Klaviyo, then verify the flow’s filters, timing and message. Klaviyo says Started Checkout events can take up to one hour to sync, so allow for that delay when assessing the result.

Evaluating Hyvä? Include Klaviyo in your checkout compatibility assessment. Check the Checkout integration listing separately from the Theme compatibility listing, then confirm the features you need in a representative test environment.

Running Klaviyo with Magento’s standard checkout? Record how your current abandoned checkout flow performs before making a change. If you are considering Hyvä Checkout, compare the checkout experience and measured performance while testing that Klaviyo continues to receive the data your flows require.

Looking ahead

The Klaviyo Reclaim listing gives merchants a specific integration to assess when considering Hyvä Checkout. The decision should rest on the package’s documented capabilities and a successful test of the store’s customer journey, rather than the package name or tracker listing alone.
